Five things to do in Beijing
5- Temple of Heaven
Built-in 1420 under the reign of the Yongle emperor of the Ming Dynasty, the Temple of Heaven played host to annual ceremonies of prayer for good harvest. It’s now a top-rated tourist attraction due to its stunning architecture and beautiful grassland.
We suggest making a special effort to witness the sunset from this beautiful place and also visit the Echo Wall.
4- Summer Palace
The Summer Palace is only a short distance from Beijing, but when you arrive there, you will feel like your in another world. You can easily spend a day here, exploring the many buildings, gardens and waterways.
The two things you should go out your way to do during your visit is to take a boat ride and visit the island temple and also sit and watch a traditional Chinese performance at one of the only traditional Chinese theatres in China.
3- The Forbidden City
Once home to 24 different emperors The Forbidden city was once an extremely private place, in fact, you had to have special permission from the emperor to enter this vast complex. Rectangular in shape the Forbidden City covers just under 189 acres. James Bond himself would struggle to sneak into this place, with a 52-meter wide moar and 10-meter high walls.
It's one of the most popular tourist attractions in the world so don't miss out on seeing this stunning place.
2- Tiananmen Square
Tiananmen Square is in the centre of Beijing and is one of the most important places to go in Beijing. The square is a great place to sit, and people watch but also has many sights to see. Tiananmen Tower, Monument of the Peoples Heros, Great Hall of the People, Chairman Mao Zedong Memorial Hall and the National Museum of China are just a few of the things to do in the square.
Tiananmen Square also has great historical importance which we suggest researching before your visit.
1- The Great Wall of China
We saved the best for last. The Great Wall of China is one of the seven wonders of the world and for a good reason. The Great Wall is the worlds longest wall measuring just over 13,000 miles. Travelling from Beijing, the part of the wall you are most likely to visit is the Balding section which sometimes can get up to 70,000 visitors a day!
While you're in Beijing, it is a must to visit the Great Wall, so grit your teeth and prepare for crowds, but also ready to be amazed.
