5 Things to do in Amsterdam
Hello! I’m Samantha and I run the travel blog Sam Sees World, where I share all my travel adventures with you! I am a Canadian expat living in Amsterdam and I love it. It is such an amazing city with so much to do, but today I will share the top 5 things to do in this wonderland.
5-Go to Vondelpark
Vondelpark is a huge park right in the middle of Amsterdam, think Central Park but in Amsterdam, although it’s not quite as large. This is one of the best things to do in Amsterdam to really feel a part of the Dutch culture. The park is always filled with people having picnics or drinking with friends. It’s the perfect place to spend the afternoon relaxing and eating your stroopwafels.
4-Go on the A’dam Lookout Swing
If you are a thrill seeker then this is perfect for you! This swing is at the top of the A’dam tower and gives you the best, birds eye view of Amsterdam. It is 100 meters above the ground and the highest swing in Europe. This is not for the faint hearted, but if you do it you will never forget the thrill and beauty of this experience.
3-Take a canal cruise
The best way to see the city is by boat. There are tons of company’s who offer one-hour tours of all the beauty the city has to offer. It’s the perfect way to relax while still seeing all of Amsterdam. An even better idea, if you are with a group or 8+ is to rent a boat! There are companies who rent boats for a few hours at a time for pretty reasonable prices. This way you can bring your own drinks and snacks and enjoy a more intimate boat ride.
2-Eat a Stroopwafel
One of the best things to do while visiting a new place is to try the countries unique food. In Amsterdam, this is the Stroopwafel, which was actually invented here! It consists of two very thin wafels with caramel in-between them and it is so delicious! It’s also a super nice gift to bring back from your travels, or keep it for yourself If you get addicted.
1–Explore the Canals
Amsterdam is pretty much made out of canals. One of the best things to do while in Amsterdam is explore all the little side streets and different canals. You will easily get lost in all the beautiful houses and house boats along the way! A tip for tourists is to watch out for bikes! Bikers in Amsterdam have no patience for people walking in their path so it is up to you to make sure you are not in the middle of the road while exploring.
