5 Things to do in Perth
Perth is the gateway to the West Coast of Australia. It boasts some of the best weather in Australia with more sunny days than any other capital city. It’s isolation means that there are many incredible sights to see that are not to be found anywhere else in the world.
Rochelle from Love Family Life Travel is a Perth local who has created this post so you can get the most out of your trip to Perth.
Here are her top five recommendations for things to do in Perth.
Located in the heart of the city, Kings Park is huge and has heaps of attractions for visitors (and locals) to enjoy. It has incredible views over the Swan River and CBD. There are walking trails through bushland. Amazing kids playgrounds and picnic areas. And it is home to Western Australia’s botanic garden. It also plays host to many events throughout the year. During the month of September is the Kings Park Festival with a huge range of activities, most of them for free.
Western Australia is famous for its wildflowers. The State is home to more than 12000 varieties of wildflowers, most of which are found nowhere else on earth. Wildflower season runs from July through to November and they are not hard to find. Head to any National Park, Nature reserve or parkland and you are sure to find some wildflowers. August and September are the best months for the rarest of orchids. John Forrest, Perth’s oldest National Park, has a wildflower trail where you are sure to find some if you look carefully. 3-Watch the sunset over the Indian Ocean
Perth is located on the West Coast of Australia which means the sun sets over the ocean. It is also home to some of the best beaches in Australia. Cottesloe beach is easy to get to from the city and is a great spot to sit on the grass, under the Norfolk Pines and have a feed of fish and chips while the sun goes down. Or you could head to Clancy’s Fish Pub at City Beach to enjoy a delicious meal while watching the sunset through their full-length windows.
Located in an outer suburb of Perth, Lesmurdie Falls is an easily accessible and picturesque waterfall near to Perth city. Wander down one of the many bush trails and explore the creeks, trees, flowers and the waterfall itself. Or take a picnic, find a nice spot and sit back and enjoy the scenery. It is best to see after there has been some rain, but the largest of the Falls should have some water in it all year round.
1-Caversham Wildlife Park
Caversham Wildlife Park is the best place to go in Perth to see Australia’s wildlife. It is a privately run zoo located within the larger Whiteman Park in the city’s North. What makes Caversham Wildlife Park so great is that there are heaps of opportunities to interact with the animals. Check out their daily attractions before you go so that you can plan your visit based on what time the shows, feedings and meetings are scheduled.
