Travel Stories Week 17
Whats your favourite place you have visited?
I have a few favourites :
1. South Africa - yes this is my home Country, but I absolutely love the way we have grown over the years. Whilst the World hears all things negative, I assure you it is not as bad as it is made out to be. We live a very happy life and have access to all amenities and luxuries you can imagine. We are also able to travel everywhere with ease
2. Istanbul - I travelled to this city when I was at an all time low in my life. I chose this city because at that time it was the most affordable option for me. It turned out to be one of the most valuable trips to my soul, because it was here that I regained my confidence.
3. The Seychelles - I have never been so relaxed that I would forget the day - except when I was in the Seychelles. The water was the perfect temperature and the soft sand made for the most amazing lazy days.
I could go on and on, but lets stop at three
Whats the best thing you have seen while travelling?
Hmmm.... I have seen the poorest people I have ever come across in Ethiopia. Why is this the best thing? Because they where happy and welcoming. It just proved to me that even though some people have very little, it does not mean that their lives are not filled with joy.
Whats your best travel story?
Gosh this was in Vietnam. I had the worst experience at the Mekong Delta. The homestay was no where near what it was made out to be. I honestly thought I would die because my heart raced the entire night long. The next morning I left the group I was travelling with and made my way to Saigon where I checked into a little boutique hotel.
Why is this my best story? Well I had only found myself in that situation because I wanted to prove to someone that I could handle a situation of that manner. When I reached Saigon I was no longer interested in what people thought about me or what they expected of me. I knew who I was and I stopped apologizing about it.
I am so grateful for that experience in Vietnam, because it solidified who I was as a person which was at the best time, because a month later I met my now husband.
