Travel Stories Week 46
Life with Larissa
What's your favourite place you have visited?
My favorite place in the entire world is Paris, France. The very first time I visited, I immediately felt at home. I was nervous to go because I had heard the stories of French people being rude and scams throughout the city, but I still tried to go with an open mind. And I am so glad that I did. Although yes, there are scams out there [I mean, they’re everywhere, right?], they are easy to spot if you do your research and you keep your eyes open. Also, I found the French to be very welcoming and friendly. Disclaimer: it might have to do with the fact that I speak French, but still. At times it was obvious that I wasn’t a native, but I was trying to meet them in the middle. I love the atmosphere, the food, the scenery, and just everything! It’s hard to put into words why it’s so great - it just feels like I’m coming home whenever I go there.
What’s the best thing you have seen while travelling?
The best thing I have seen, and will always see, while travelling is the kindness of strangers. I have been in some pretty sticky situations and if it weren’t for kind individuals, I do not know what I would have done. One time in Italy, I was arriving to my destination at night. I thought the directions were pretty straight forward, but I quickly got confused and the bus driver was of no help. I got off at the wrong stop and was legitimately sobbing because I didn’t know what I was going to do. I didn’t know where to go. I didn’t really speak any Italian. It was dark. Dogs were barking. I thought I was going to be spending the night on the side of the street. I was scared. The guy who got off at the same stop as me walked back to me when he heard me crying and asked if he could help in any way. I asked him for directions, and he informed me he wasn’t sure, but that his roommate was a cop and could probably help. He ran [yes - legs pumping] to his place to get his roommate. At this point, I thought I was all on my own. But he did come back with his roommate and they actually drove me to the place where I was staying. Super easy situation to take advantage of a vulnerable tourist, but neither of them did and helped a stranger out of the goodness of their heart. That will forever and always be the best thing seen while travelling.
What’s your best travel story?
If you’re a HUGE Mario Kart like myself, you’re really going to appreciate this story. So one year, my friend asks if I want to go to Japan for Thanksgiving. Thinking she was mostly kidding, I agreed. Imagine my surprise when I found out she was being serious. Tickets were booked, and research on what to do was started. While reading about Tokyo, I stumbled across the most amazing thing ever - MariCar Tour. Essentially a tour through Tokyo in go karts while dressed up as Mario characters! I told my friend I didn’t care what we did, but what I wanted to do with all my heart, body, and soul was this tour. And it certainly did not disappoint! You get to choose one of the various routes, a costume, and then you hit the streets of Tokyo! I was driving on the highway in a go kart - it was incredible! If you ever go to Japan, I highly recommend checking to see if they are in the city you’re visiting. Such a unique way to see the city :)
Tell us about your blog
I started my blog in 2016 after a friend recommended I do so as a way to document my travels, as well as share them with family and friends. Travelling brings me so much joy, so I was excited with the opportunity of sharing that with others. I post about the places I've been, experiences I've had, and tips that may help others along the way. Posts I've written include things to do, what to see, and how to book tours. I've also touched on my favorite aspects of travelling as well as my least favorite in certain blog challenge posts. I just love connecting with like mind individuals who love to travel and can share in my excitement! Although I'm not always on the road, I am always ready to go on a new adventure!
